I simply had an arresting meeting with Lindsay Shedden, the Festival Director for Sled Island. Sled Island is a 4 day music and expressions celebration in Calgary that commences the late spring, where several groups and craftsmen get together to play in venues over the city.
History
Sled Island was established in 2007 by Zak Pashak the proprietor of Broken City, a nearby Calgary bar. When I asked Lindsay how Sled Island came to fruition, she said it was a thought over brews. In its inaugural year more than 6000 fans turned out to see neighborhood sensations (Chad VanGaalen, Woodpigeons, and so on.) close by worldwide groups (Spoon, Cat Power, Boredoms, and so on.). There were 96 groups that played in different venues that first year and it was just the starting. Sled Island has developed each year and the unfathomable line-ups have included Mogwai, Wire, Deerhunter, The Breeders, Jose Gonzales, Built to Spill thus some more.
For the current year - June 22-25, 2011
They are anticipating that more than 25000 fans should see the 200+ specialists coming to Calgary during the current year's Sled Island Music Festival that will be playing in more than 25 venues over the city. Acts this year incorporate The Buzzcocks, Dandy Warhols, Sleep, Of Montreal, Kurt Vile and that's only the tip of the iceberg. To see the majority of the considerable groups that are coming look at the full line-up. A percentage of the energizing venues are Olympic Plaza, Glenbow Museum, Republik, Royal Canadian Legion #1, and so on. There's a spot for everyone so investigate which venues are ideal for you. There's each sort of music from hip bounce to punk; and each kind of venue from clubs to all ages appears. Furthermore, if music isn't your thing, there's specialty, comic drama and film. There's something for everybody.
With more than 200 groups coming to town, it's difficult to see every one of them so I asked the master.
Me: Who are you anticipating seeing?
Lindsay: The Intelligence, Jim Ward, and Zola Jesus.
Me: These groups are somewhat more dark than the Buzzcocks or Of Montreal.
Lindsay: That's the magnificence of this celebration is finding these stunning groups that you might not have known about some time recently.
Me: What do you believe is the best venue?
Lindsay: I don't think about best yet I'm truly amped up for our new venue this year Twisted Element.
Me: Who are the fans that turn out to Sled Island?
Lindsay: Music sweethearts. Furthermore, it's not simply Calgarians any longer. Individuals are originating from the whole way across Canada. Vancouver, they adore Sled Island.
Me: Are there going to be any shocks this year?
Lindsay: Yes, there will be parts.
